Jesus Christ is not only called “the Saviour of the body”,

Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

He is called “the Saviour of the world”.

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

No “Bible believing Christian” will ever deny that Jesus Christ is “the Savior of the body”, the body being “the body of Christ”, even “the church”. But most will deny that Jesus is “the Savior of the world”. Of course, they will acknowledge that the scriptures clearly say that Jesus is “the Savior of the world” and they will even claim to believe that Jesus is “the Savior of the world”. But, though they say they believe this, they will have to qualify their belief by explaining that Jesus did not come ‘to save’ the world but only to ‘offer salvation‘ to the world.

The problem, as they see it, is that while we know that the bible says salvation is a “free gift” given to all men by the grace of God, not all men have ‘accepted’ this free gift. And in order to receive it and ‘be saved’, this is what men have to “do”; which is, of course, what they have done in order to secure their own salvation.

I have heard some compare the gift of salvation to a Christmas or birthday present that ‘has to be opened’ in order to be received. I have even, more recently, had someone compare salvation to a puppy being given to a child which, should the child abuse it or not be able to take care of it, can be taken away. Either way, most Christians believe that this “free gift” is not actually “free” at all, but comes with at least some strings attached to it!! They believe that salvation is not based on what the Lord has done because of His great love for us, but on what we are now required to do in response to what He has already done, in order to prove our love for Him!! They still call it “grace” and still claim it’s a “free gift”, but there are, none the less, those strings attached to it. Therefore, salvation is not up to God, it is up to man!! God made it ‘possible’ for men to be saved, but that is as far as He went. They say; “God did His part, now it is up to us.” And because not all men do ‘their’ part, not all men are saved, only believers are saved because only they “have accepted” God’s “free gift”. Only they, as believers, are a part of “the church” which is “the body of Christ”. Only they, as believers, are “in Christ”, He being, of course, “the Savior of the body” (ie “the church”, ie “believers”).

So what of “the world” and “the dead in Christ”?

Well, in order to maintain that only believers are “in Christ” one has to believe that when Paul speaks of “the dead in Christ” he is speaking of “believers” who have “died” (a physical death).  This whether they believe that the spirits of those believers are actually alive and conscious and with the Lord in heaven awaiting the future resurrection of their dead bodies from their graves or they believe that the souls of believers sleep while they await a future resurrection of the dead.

They say that the proof of this is that Paul is speaking about those who “shall rise first” and everyone knows that “only believers” come forth in “the first resurrection”, as John has written in Rev 20 that “blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection” (while “the rest of the dead live not until the thousand years in finished”). It is these, who have part in the first resurrection, who will rule and reign with Christ for a thousand years in the kingdom of God. It is these over whom “the second death” has “no power”. Though they reign with Christ for a thousand years, the rest of the dead live not again until the thousand years are finished and many, if not most, of them shall be cast into the lake of fire which is the second death.

Well, there you have it!! Only those who believe come forth in the first resurrection and only some of those who come forth in the second resurrection are saved and everyone else, whose names are not found in the Lamb’s book of life, are cast into the lake of fire from which there is no escape!! They will suffer “everlasting punishment” while those who believe will inherit “eternal life”!!

Perhaps a huge part of the problem is that we do not have a proper understanding of “eternal life” (aiōnion zōēn) and “everlasting punishment” (aiōnion kolasin).

We are told that “eternal life” is life in heaven after we die and we are told that “everlasting punishment” is life in hell after we die, as we are told that we are not judged until after we die and that this is when the sheep will be separated from the goats, when the wheat will be separated from the tares, and when those whose names are not found in the Lamb’s book of life will be cast into the lake fire from which they will never escape. Therefore, they will be “tormented day and night forever and ever”.

We are told this and we believe it, despite the fact that the scriptures say that we are recompensed “in the earth”!

Pro 11:31  Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

We are told this and we believe it, despite the fact that Jesus said (about) two thousand years ago: “I am come to send fire in the earth” and “now is the judgment of this world”.

Luke 12:49-51  I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

John 12:30-32  Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

We are told this and we believe it, despite the fact that Paul said Christ came “once to die” (as it is appointed unto men) and “after this the judgment”.

How many quote Heb 9:27 in order to prove then men are judged “after they die” when that is not what Paul said at all? Paul is not speaking about the deaths “of men”, but about the death of Christ! Let us look at verse 27 in light of the surrounding verses:

Heb 9:24-28   For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Paul is speaking about the death of Christ!! It even speaks of “judgment” BEFORE it speaks of Christ appearing “the second time”… to whom? Is it to “the world”? Or “unto them that look for Him”…  “without sin unto salvation” (no longer our sin offering, but our salvation = CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY!!)

Jesus speaks of this when He tells us that He will not leave us comfortless, but He will come to us. And when “the Comforter”, “the Holy Spirit”, “the Spirit of Truth” is come “he will reprove the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment!

John 16:7-14   Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  Of sin, because they believe not on me;  Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;  Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.  I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

This, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, ISthe revelation of Jesus Christ” that was “signified” to John!!!

Just as Jesus (the Word) was “made flesh” and crucified “in the earth”, “in a place called Calvary” (= “the place of the skull”), two thousand years ago, so is He “the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world”!!

He is “the light that ligheth every man coming into the world” but “men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” and they would not come to the light lest their deeds should be reproved! Therefore, men suffered “the wages of sin” which was “death” and Christ, being “crucified”, was “buried in the earth”!! And men were cast out of the garden and out of the presence of God. However, thanks be to God who can command the light to shine out of darkness and divide the light from the darkness!!

Our life is HID with Christ in God, until He who is our life shall appear. And when HE who is our life SHALL APPEAR, then shall WE APPEAR WITH HIM, in glory!! Christ in you, the Hope of glory.

So let’s go back to the crucifixion of Christ!

Jesus said that no one was able to take His life but that He laid it down Himself, having power to take it up again!

Joh 10:14-18  I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

So now we have:

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Joh 10:15  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Are we beginning to see that “the sheep” = “the body” = “the world”?

Are we beginning to see that there is only ONE FOLD with ONE SHEPHERD, ONE BODY with ONE HEAD where God is concerned?

Let us go back to what Jesus said He would do “if I be lifted up from the earth”:

John 12:30-32  Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

This, my dear brothers and sisters, happened two thousand years ago!

If one died FOR ALL, then were ALL DEAD. But glory to God that He was in Christ reconciling THE WORLD unto Himself, not imputing their (THE WORLD’S) trespasses against them!!

He hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints IN LIGHT by delivering us FROM THE POWER OF DARKNESS and hath TRANSLATED US into the kingdom of His dear Son, IN WHOM WE HAVE REDEMPTION AND THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS!!

Col 1:12-23 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Now some will, quite correctly, point out that Paul said: “IF ye continue in faith grounded and settled”. AMEN!! Only those who BELIEVE inherit “eternal life”, as only they HAVE PASSED from death UNTO LIFE!!

Being “gathered together in Christ” is but the beginning! We were gathered together in Christ “when we were dead in sins”.

Eph 2:1-8 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

It was “the dead” (ALL WERE DEAD) who were “gathered together in Christ”. We were not baptized into His LIFE, but into His DEATH! We had to be “buried with Him” IN DEATH before we could be “raised with Him” IN LIFE! And it is because we have been buried with Him into death that we should also walk in the newness of life.

Rom 6:1-11 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus said that if He be lifted up (which He was) He would draw (= DRAG, in the Greek) ALL MEN unto Himself. He also said “I am come to send fire in the earth” for “now is the judgment of this world”. He came not to bring peace but a sword and division!!

Mat 22:1-14  And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.  Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.

Can we not see, dear brothers and sisters, that the wedding was made ready but those who were bidden did not come! So the King, in order to provided guests for the wedding, sent His servants out to gather in ALL whom they can find, both the good and the bad, and it is not until the King comes to see the quests that the one without a wedding garment is bound hand and foot and cast into outer darkness?

This is how God works!!

Jud 1:5  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

The problem is not in being able to see that God separates the sheep from the goats, the wheat from the tares, those who believe from those who believe not, it’s in being able to see and understand when and how this “division” takes place and just what, exactly, is being “separated”. If we are not “comparing spiritual things with spiritual” in order to “rightly divide” the word of truth, “while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen” (“for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal”), then we are never going to be able to see and understand that this is not an “us” vs “them” scenario! It is OUR “old man” that is the tare, the goat, the unbeliever, whose name is not written in the Lamb’s book of Life!! But thanks be to God who gives us a new name, even His name, our “old man” having been crucified with Him!! Thanks be to God who is rich in mercy and with what great love He loves us died for us, and even when we were dead in sins hath he quickened together with Christ. For it is by grace we are saved!!

And “if any man be in Christ he is a new creation” and part of the one new man, created in Christ!!

2Co 5:14-20 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

As many as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ!!

Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

How many were baptized into Christ?

Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

We need not strive to know His death, we have been baptized into it. What we are striving to know is THE POWER OF HIS RESURRECTION so that we can HAVE PART IN IT!! As blessed and holy is he that has part in THE FIRST RESURRECTION!! They shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years!!

Rev 20:6  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

It is “these” who HAVE PASSED from death into life, attaining unto THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD becoming CHILDREN OF THE DAY, and CHILDREN OF THE RESURRECTION!!

But even if we believe not, yet shall HE ABIDETH FAITHFUL, for He CANNOT DENY HIMSELF!

2Ti 2:11-21  It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

We know that while “not all sleep, we shall all be changed”.

1Co 15:51-52  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

And Paul did not want us to be ignorant of the truth concerning “them which sleep” (those who are “dead in Christ”) for “them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him”. Hallelujah! What GOOD NEWS!!

1Th 4:13-18  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Paul is not talking about “corpses” of dead, rotting flesh in earthen tombs! That is not who “the dead” are!!

Joh 6:53  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

The gospel message is one of RECONCILIATION, brothers and sisters!!

That which is being “separated” is:

Let us not forget that:

God was in Christ reconciling THE WORLD creating ONE NEW MAN, so making peace!!

Eph 2:13-22 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

There is A NATURAL BODY (Adam) and there is A SPIRITUAL BODY (Christ).

The “one new man” created “in Christ” is “the body of Christ”, “the bride of Christ”, “the church” – of whom He is the Head and Savior!!

Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

And as many as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ!

Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

And as ALL having been “gathered together in Him” (even when we were dead in sins), that makes Him:

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

All blessings in Christ!!

Sister I really love what you have to say in this paper. Have not heard from you in a little while if this is what you were doing I hope you dont mind me saying I hope I dont hear from you in awile more. It would seem the time was well spent. This is one of if not the best I have read on what is happening in the earth right now. You are a good sister and I thank God for you and all that He speaks through you. Hi Dave, I wrote that the other night in response to some comments being made on MySpace. I had intended it to focus more of the difference between “eternal life” and “everlasting punishment” but it sort of took on a life of its own as I wrote it. It does address that, but just in the way that I originally started out thinking that I would address it. So maybe I’ll write another; we’ll see.

The last few times I replied to emails that you were included on, my replies came back from your email account as “blocked”. Not by you but by the provider it seemed. Not sure what the problem was but it happened several times. I replied to the last email that you sent me, forwarding me that paper of Ben’s. It did not come back undeliverable, so I assume you got it. You can let me know if you didn’t. I’ll try to shoot you another email this weekend, as I my number has changed. I’ll send you the new number. Thanks for reading!! Have a great weekend!! Chat with ya later! Christine
