These are the words recorded in Gen 1:26, the very first mention of man in the very first chapter of the very first book of the Bible. Many have concluded from these words that ‘God created man in His own image’.  But while some believe that this refers to Adam who was “formed out of the dust of the ground” in Genesis 2 before Eve was taken out of Adam, others believe that this refers to Adam as a “spiritual creation” before he was “formed out of the dust of the ground” in Genesis 2.

Those who believe that this refers to the same Adam of Genesis 2 believe that this also refers to “all men”, for all men are the offspring of Adam and Eve. So they also bear “the image of God”. Those who believe that this man in Genesis 1 is a “spiritual creation”, the creation of a “spiritual man”, that took place “before” Adam was “formed of the dust of the ground” in Genesis 2, see it a little bit differently. While they believe that this man in Genesis 1 was “created in the image of God”, they see him as a spiritual man and not an earthly man. They recognize that the man (Adam) who appears in Genesis 2 is “formed out of the dust of the ground” so is “of the earth”. They believe that the spiritual man who was “created in the image of God” (who was “male and female”) was “put into” a physical body in Gen 2. And this Adam of Genesis 2 was “male and female” until God separated “the female part of the spirit” from “the male part of the spirit”.

Clearly the man of Gen 1 is mentioned first. Clearly he is said to have been “created in the image of God”. And clearly he is said to be “male and female”. It is just as clear from reading Gen 2 that Adam was first formed, then Eve. And “the woman” was, indeed, taken from “the man”. Then God brought the woman to the man and Adam said:

“This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” (Gen 2:23-24)

The question that I want to ask, and try to answer, is: Who is this MAN “created in the image of God” in Genesis 1? Is this speaking of Adam before Eve was taken from the man? Is it Adam as a spiritual creation before being “formed out of the dust of the ground”? Or is this man JESUS, THE CHRIST?

Now those who see this man as “a spiritual man” may, indeed, believe that this “is Christ”. But I believe that they see this as Christ in the spirit, long before the Word was “made flesh”, as they see this creation taking place before even Adam was formed out of the dust of the ground, before even the heavens and the earth were created – in the natural.

I’m going to explain why I believe that this MAN in Gen 1 is JESUS and why I do not believe that this is speaking of A SPIRITUAL MAN “created in the image of God” BEFORE ADAM was ever “formed out of the dust of the ground” in Gen 2.

When Paul explains that there is both “a natural body” and “a spiritual body”, he tells us that THE NATURAL BODY CAME FIRST! He tells us that the man in Gen 2 (who was “made a living soul”) was THE FIRST MAN, and that “the first man” IS OF THE EARTH!

1Co 15:39-54  All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Paul said: “As we HAVE BORNE the image of the earthly, we SHALL also bear the image of the heavenly”. But first there needs to be A CHANGE!

This MORTAL needs to “put on” IMMORTALITY, which ONLY CHRIST has.

1Ti 6:12-16  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

We do this not by being “unclothed” but by being CLOTHED UPON:

2Co 5:1-4 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

We need “to be clothed” WITH CHRIST, who is OUR COVERING!

Which leads me to….

As touched on already in 1 Cor 15, it is THE SECOND MAN who is “the Lord from heaven”. He is also called THE LAST ADAM (who was “made a quickening spirit”). And no one should doubt that this “second man”, this “Last Adam” IS JESUS CHRIST!

1Co 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

And it is this same Jesus who said that He was going to the Father and that He would send “another Comforter” who would never forsake us or leave us. This Comforter is the spirit of TRUTH, the spirit of CHRIST, the spirit of GOD… It is THE FATHER AND THE SON coming to make “their abode” IN MEN

John 14:18-20  will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

Which brings me to…

Col 1:1-29  Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother, To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit. For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church: Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

We must be “conformed to” THE IMAGE OF HIS SON!

Rom 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

By having CHRIST “formed” IN US!

Gal 4:19  My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

This is what Paul was waiting for – for them to be DELIVERED OF THE CHILD just as he had been.

1Co 13:9-12  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Because THE HEIR “as long as he is” A CHILD “differs nothing from” A SERVANT.

Gal 4:1-6  Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

A child knows in part and prophesies in part, but when that which is perfect (CHRIST) “is come” then that which is “in part” IS DONE AWAY. As “a child” we see through a glass darkly, but AS SONS we see FACE TO FACE! As sons WE KNOW, EVEN AS WE ARE KNOWN! And because we are sons God has SENT FORTH THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON INTO OUR HEARTS!!

Let us then, God willing, GO ON UNTO PERFECTION! That we may receive THE ADOPTION (placement) OF SONS and bear THE IMAGE OF GOD!

You see, God did not “create” (past tense) “man in His image”… God is CREAT-ING (is, was, and is to come) “man in His image” by “conforming” Adam (the FIRST MAN, who was “formed out of the dust of the ground”) “to” THE IMAGE OF HIS SON (the LAST ADAM, the SECOND MAN… the FIRSTBORN of MANY BRETHREN).

Which brings me to…

Note that it is of Him that was TO COME!

Rom 5:14  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Paul used THE HUSBAND and THE WIFE to teach us truths about “Christ and the church”.

Eph 5:22-32  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

2Co 11:1-2  Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

He used THE MAN and THE WOMAN to teach us about “Christ and the church”

1Co 11:1-16 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

Lest anyone falsely believe that Paul is telling the Corinthians that the “hierarchy” in the church is WOMAN -> MAN -> CHRIST -> GOD, let me point out to you that this is NOT “the order” Paul gives, nor are we to know ANY MAN “after the flesh” (not even Christ).

2Co 5:14-21  For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

 Paul said:

Let us understand that Paul is talking about CHRIST AND THE CHURCH. That when it comes to “Christ and the church”, THE MAN is CHRIST and THE WOMAN is THE CHURCH. And while Christ is THE HEAD OF THE BODY, THE HEAD OF CHRIST IS GOD, that God may be ALL IN ALL.

For more on the difference between “a child” and “a son”, between “a woman” and “a man”, what it means to be as “a woman in travail”  whose hour is come “the be delivered of the child”, and why Paul said: “I suffer not A WOMAN to teach, nor usurp authority over THE MAN”. please refer to my other studies on those topics.

It seems clear to me that Adam is THE FIRST MAN and the first man IS OF THE EARTH, that we bear the image OF THE EARTHLY before we bear the image OF THE HEAVENLY, that that which is FIRST is not that which is SPIRITUAL, but that which is NATURAL… FIRST THE NATURAL, THEN THE SPIRITUAL!

So how, then, do we explain THE MAN “created in the image of God” in Genesis 1 who is MALE AND FEMALE?

This is not found only in Genesis 1, we see it again in Genesis 5:

Gen 5:1-6  This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos: …. Etc, etc.

It is “this” ADAM (“male and female”) that God “created in His image”. It is ADAM AND EVE… who are figures of CHRIST AND THE CHURCH!

It is THE SECOND MAN, THE LAST ADAM, THE SON OF GOD who bears THE IMAGE OF GOD! And Adam (Christ) was first formed, then Eve (the Church). For Christ is THE HEAD of THE BODY… He is THE SAVIOR OF THE BODY!

Eph 5:23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

I believe that what we see in Gen 1 is God declaring THE END “from” THE BEGINNING… the things that are NOT YET DONE, saying MY COUNSEL SHALL STAND AND I WILL DO ALL MY PLEASURE.

Isa 46:9-10  Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Notice that THIS MAN, who bears THE IMAGE OF GOD, appears LAST in Gen 1, on THE SIXTH DAY!

*Also note the verb tense, as it moves from the imperfect tense to the perfect tense.

Gen 1:26-28,31  And God said, Let us make (IMPERFECT) man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion (IMPERFECT) over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created (IMPERFECT) man in his own image, in the image of God created (PERFECT) he him; male and female created (PERFECT) he them. And God blessed (IMPERFECT) them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful (IMPERATIVE), and multiply (IMPERATIVE), and replenish (IMPERATIVE) the earth, and subdue it (IMPERATIVE): and have dominion (IMPERATIVE) over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. … And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Yet the Adam “formed out of the dust of the ground” in Gen 2 appears FIRST… but not until “there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.” Then God “formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

While the FIRST MAN ADAM was made a living soul, the LAST ADAM was made a quickening spirit. And it was not until after God breathed the breath of life into Adam, making him a living soul, that God placed Adam into the Garden He planted, wherein he planted the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life.

God commanded Adam not to eat of the tree of KoG&E saying that “thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” And this is exactly what happened as a result of Adam’s disobedience. The soul that sinneth, it shall die! Adam, whom God “made a LIVING soul” by breathing into him “the breath of life” DIED IN SIN and was “cast out of the garden” TO TILL THE GROUND FROM WHICH HE CAME.

Notice that God told Adam: “thou shalt eat the herb of the field”:

Gen 3:17-18 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

Now who was it, in Gen 1, that God gave “every green herb for meat”?

Gen 1:30  And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

We are told elsewhere in scripture that man had no preeminence over the beasts, even that “the sons of men… they themselves are beasts”.

Ecc 3:18  I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

Man in his “natural” state is OF THE EARTH, formed out of THE DUST OF THE GROUND… A BEAST OF THE FIELD, the most subtle of which is THE SERPENT. (More about that some other time.)

Many believe that Adam was immortal until he sinned. But how can that be true if

1Ti 6:16  Who (speaking of “our Lord Jesus Christ”) only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

(2) Adam would have had to partake of the Tree of Life (Christ, in a figure) to “live forever”.

Gen 3:22  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

(3) These things are only made manifest “by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ”

2Ti 1:7-10For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

It is THIS MORTAL that must PUT ON IMMORTALITY! Then is DEATH “swallowed up in victory” (being swallowed up OF LIFE).

1Co 15:51-54  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

So that THE LIFE OF JESUS can be made manifest IN OUR MORTAL FLESH!

2Co 4:7-11 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

And thou we WERE DEAD (the soul that sinneth, IT SHALL DIE) YET SHALL WE LIVE… AND NEVER DIE! Having become CHILDREN (sons) OF THE RESURRECTION).

John 11:23-26 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Mat 22:29-32  Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

John 4:38  I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

Who are these “other men” who labored and into whose labor Christ’s disciples were to enter?

Did not Jesus say: “…that THE DEAD ARE RAISED even Moses showed at the bush…”?

Luke 20:34-38And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

That which is born of the flesh IS FLESH!

That which is born of the spirit IS SPIRIT!

Rom 8:1-14 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Walk ye therefore IN THE SPIRIT OF GOD and LIVE!

All Blessings in Christ!

  1. Stan Peel says:

There is only one creation. Gen 1 and Gen 2 are not two creations. Gen 2 is a further revelation of Gen 1, as God reveals himself to us precept upon precept. Gen 1 and Gen 2 DO fit together. Yes, man and woman are figures of Christ and the Church, but man and woman created he them is not a separate creation of man. Man was created with woman within him just as Christ entered our time domain and delivered the church before He returned to the right hand of the Father. Said another way, the church was taken from Christ just as the woman was taken from man. Both were accomplished in the power of Him who was slain from the foundation of the world.
I really enjoyed the way you presented your case from the scriptures! We should talk more.
    In Christ, Stan Peel

  2. Christine says:

Hello, Stan. Did I say somewhere that Gen 1 and Gen 2 DON’T fit together? The difference I see between Gen 1 and Gen 2 is that Gen 1 speaks about a man “created in the image of God” (this speaks to the LAST ADAM, not the first) while Gen 2 speaks of a man “formed out of the dust of the ground” (this speaks to the FIRST MAN ADAM). The first man Adam (formed out of the dust of the ground) speaks to man in his natural/earthy state, whom was “made a living soul” when God sent forth HIS SPIRIT. The Last Adam (created in the image of God) speaks of the spiritual/heavenly man, who is “made a quickening spirit” BY “the resurrection of the dead”. Of course they fit together! One speaks the natural man, the other to the spiritual man. They speak to the TWO NATURES in man (Adam), the first being “born of the flesh” (man), the second being “born of the spirit” (God). One is the son OF MAN, the other the son OF GOD. Does that help?

    Hello Christine
Something you might want to think about. Jesus was the last Adam not the second. Nothing of the old goes into the new. The last adam was killed on the cross. The life we now live is in the ressurected Christ of God. This is a new man a spritural man Christ in you the hope of glory.
Old things have passed away all has been made new. Just some things to ponder.

Hello Dave. How have you been? I’m not sure what you are referring to. I tried to look to see if I mentioned a “second Adam”, but I can’t find it if I did. But maybe you are referring to “the second man”? The “second man” IS “the Lord from Heaven”. This is the new man, a spiritual man. I agree. I don’t think I said otherwise? So who is Jesus? Is he not both the Last Adam and the second man? There being only “two” men (in whom all men have been concluded)? One natural, one spiritual; one earthly, one heavenly?

Hope all is well with you and yours! 🙂
    All Blessings in Christ!
